IPL Skin Rejuvenation

With Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Laser treatments, you can treat the face and most body areas to improve the overall tone and texture of your skin, reducing the visible signs of ageing. It will also soften and firm your skin whilst plumping
fine lines and wrinkles. IPL Skin Rejuvenation is particularly ideal for treating
ageing skin, fine lines and wrinkles, brown spots/pigmentation, acne
and acne scarring, rosacea and redness.

How Does The Treatment Work?

IPL treatments are performed using a hand held device that unlike conventional lasers delivers a broad spectrum of light. The wavelengths of light penetrate deeper into the skin tissue than would be the case with other systems. As a result the cells beneath the skin’s surface are stimulated and this triggers the body’s response to eliminate injured tissues and dead skin cells. We use a rapid motion second generation device that emits up to ten shots a second.

The Procedure…

Before treatment can be provided a test patch 24 hours prior to treatment will need to be carried out –
normally done at your consultation. You will also need to complete a Fitzpatrick skin test form.
Once you are ready to start your treatment, we’ll mark out the area to be treated and apply a thin film of IPL treatment gel. Then the hand piece is applied to the area to be treated. At first a low energy setting is used and gently increased until we find your comfortable level. We then sweep across the treatment area until the procedure is completed.
The treatment will need to be carried out 6 – 8 times, every 4 – 6 weeks.

After Care Post Treatment

Hot showers, hot baths and saunas are to be avoided for 24 hours. Also anything that generates heat in the skin such as exercise, cooking over a high heat, etc. If the skin is broken or a blister appears keep the area lubricated to prevent crusting or scabbing of tissue and contact us. Cold packs, Aloe Vera or any other cooling preparation may be used to ease any temporary discomfort.
Prolonged sun exposure should be avoided for four weeks before treatment and then for the four weeks after treatment. A total sun block should be applied. If further treatment is needed then a commitment to stay out of the sun is necessary. If there is direct sun exposure there are certain complications that may occur that will be discussed during your initial consultation. Make-up can be applied as long as the skin is not broken. Make-up that has a Sun Protection Factor can serve as an additional sun block.
